Jal Draw at SH 349, Ector County, Texas.
This Texas DOT project was to improve the SH 349 Reliever Route by constructing a new road alignment, new Jal Draw channel alignment, a culvert at CR 60, a bridge at the new SH 349, and new culverts at FM 1788. HHR provided hydrologic analysis and hydraulic modeling for all drainage improvements, prepared the drainage study and report, and created documentation for the CLOMR request. This project was complicated by (1) floodway encroachments on the FIRM not matching effective model; (2) unmapped, but revised hydrology from a previous LOMR; (3) structures omitted from the effective model; and (4) revised floodway encroachments. The revised conditions model included channelization, a new bridge crossing, a new culvert crossing (skewed), replacement culverts, and revised floodway encroachments. We coordinated this effort with the local floodplain administrator, FEMA, and TxDOT.
